Voices for Vermont's Children is a proud member of:
Vermont children continue to be exposed to lead and there is no safe level of lead. Young children are particularly vulnerable to lead as it has permanent effects on their developing brains. The primary source of lead exposure is lead-based paint in pre-1978 housing and surrounding soil.
Public Education
“Education is perhaps the most important function of state and local governments. . . . It is required in the performance of our most basic public responsibilities. . . . It is the very foundation of good citizenship. Today it is a principal instrument in awakening the child to cultural values, in preparing him for later professional training, and in helping him to adjust normally to his environment. In these days, it is doubtful that any child may reasonably be expected to succeed in life if he is denied the opportunity of an education.”
-U.S. Supreme Court, 1954 Brown V. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas
All children will have an appropriate, equitable, high quality education from early care to adulthood.
Educating Vermont’s children stands as one of our society’s most significant responsibilities. Despite major challenges in today’s society, Vermont is fortunate to have a strong system of local schools where volunteer boards give their time, and the school is part of what makes the community strong.
