Vermont children continue to be exposed to lead and there is no safe level of lead. Young children are particularly vulnerable to lead as it has permanent effects on their developing brains. The primary source of lead exposure is lead-based paint in pre-1978 housing and surrounding soil.
2008 National KIDS COUNT Data Book

Vermont ranks 10th in the nation in a new state-by-state study on the well-being of America’s children. The 2008 National KIDS COUNT Data Book reveals that Vermont improved on three of the 10 measures affecting child well-being, experienced six setbacks and saw no change in one since 2000.
