What Was this Public Action All About?
Our group is convinced that students will be more likely to succeed if they have one teacher advisor for their four years of high school who knows them well and can help them develop a personal learning plan. The concept is simple: students who have a relationship throughout their high school years with an adult who really gets to know them, holds them accountable, and helps them make decisions about classes and activities are better equipped to make the most of their high school experience and go on to the college and/or the career that best suits them. Small advisory groups with more individualized attention and a long-term relationship ensure that no student “falls through the cracks” and that all students are challenged to reach high expectations. On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at College Street Congregational Church, we presented our research. BHS Principal Amy Mellencamp and Partnership for Change Director Hal Colston committed to working to establish such an advisory system at BHS.

A strong and effective advisory system will help ensure our youth are prepared for the future. Our children, our students, our parents, our teachers, our community and our future!! Make some noise if YOU can commit to supporting our work with the schools. Can we count on you?”
