Advancing Racial, Ethnic, & Social Equity
Equity = Action
Advancing equity requires that we identify barriers to opportunity that exist independent of any individual strengths or weaknesses and allocate resources in ways that address those systemic barriers to opportunity.
Opportunity is not the same as Equity
For example, an equity result is that “every student is educated” as opposed to “every student has the opportunity to be educated” because ”opportunity” reinforces the idea that there are disparate outcomes in communities of color and low-income communities, because of the choices people make rather than as a result of institutional and structural racism, classism, etc.
