Early Prenatal Care

Between 2000 and 2010, the rate of pregnant women in Vermont receiving early prenatal care ranged between 80 and 85 percent.

This was short of the goal set by the Vermont Department of Health, in Healthy Vermonters 2010, that at least 90 percent of Vermont women receive prenatal care in the first trimester of their pregnancy.

Healthy Vermonters 2020, Vermont’s current state health assessment plan, identifies additional goals related to maternal and infant health.

Pregnancy is a critical time for laying the groundwork for a healthy life. Ensuring that pregnant women access quality health care during the very first stages of pregnancy increases the chances for healthy births and must remain an important goal.
