Protect the US Census!

At Voices for Vermont's Children, we believe that data is essential to creating effective policy and keeping track of what works and what doesn’t. Good data allows us to spot problems that make our kids and communities less healthy and safe, and track which solutions have the greatest impact. It helps elected officials allocate resources fairly to give every child the chance to thrive. Voices’ policy team depends upon an accurate and complete decennial census to inform our positions on policies that impact Vermont’s children and families.

Right now, proposed changes to the U.S. census threaten the quality of nationwide data that policy analysts and decision-makers have relied on for centuries. Census data are used to allocate federal funding for the services and programs Vermonters rely upon for health, safety, education, economic development and more.  Several of the changes will have a disproportionate impact on older, rural states like Vermont.
